Self-Grooming During the Long Vacation: Preparing for a Fresh Academic Session
The long vacation is a wonderful opportunity for students to rest, have fun, spend time with family, and recharge after a busy academic session. However, a good vacation should not mean forgetting the habits that make us healthy, confident, disciplined, and ready to learn.
At Wales International School, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. Developing good personal habits, taking responsibility, and learning to care for oneself are important parts of becoming a well-rounded student.
What Is Self-Grooming?
Self-grooming means taking good care of your body, mind, appearance, environment, and daily habits.
It includes:
– Keeping yourself clean and neat.
– Maintaining healthy daily routines.
– Staying mentally active through reading and learning.
– Taking responsibility for your actions.
– Developing discipline even when nobody is watching.
A well-groomed student not only looks presentable; they also return to school healthy, confident, focused, and ready to learn.
Why Is Self-Grooming Important During Vacation?
1. It Builds Discipline
During the holidays, students have fewer school routines and reminders. Maintaining good habits teaches them to become responsible and disciplined on their own.
2. It Promotes Good Health
Good hygiene, proper sleep, healthy routines, and reasonable screen time help students maintain their physical and mental well-being.
3. It Keeps the Mind Active
A long break from learning can make students forget some of what they have learnt. Regular reading and revision help keep the mind sharp.
4. It Builds Confidence
Looking clean, neat, and presentable can make students feel more confident.
5. It Makes Resumption Easier
Students who maintain a routine during the vacation usually find it easier to return to early mornings, school uniforms, lessons, and other academic responsibilities.
Simple Self-Grooming Habits for the Holidays
Keep yourself clean: Bathe regularly, brush your teeth morning and night, keep your hair neat, trim your nails, and wear clean clothes.
Maintain a daily routine: Wake up at a reasonable time, make time for chores, meals, learning, rest, and recreation. Avoid spending the entire day on your phone, watching TV, or playing video games.
Read every day: Spend about 30–45 minutes reading storybooks, novels, or educational materials. Revising previous schoolwork a few times each week can also help you prepare for the new session.
Learn something new: The vacation is a great time to develop a new skill. Students can explore cooking, sewing, music, crafts, or other useful interests.
Help at home: Participating in household chores teaches responsibility, teamwork, and independence. Remember to show respect and good manners to parents, siblings, neighbours, and others.
Prepare Early for Resumption
Don’t wait until the night before school resumes.
At least two weeks before resumption:
– Check your school uniforms and footwear.
– Organise your books and stationery.
– Check your school bag and other learning materials.
– Begin adjusting your sleeping pattern.
– Get yourself mentally prepared for the new academic session.
A Message to Our Students
Dear Wales students, enjoy your vacation! Rest, have fun, spend quality time with your family, and make beautiful memories. But while enjoying your holiday, remember to take care of yourself and maintain the habits that make you a better person.
Small habits practised every day can make a big difference when school resumes.
Stay clean. Stay disciplined. Keep learning. Take responsibility. Stay ready.
Remember:
«A well-groomed vacation produces a well-prepared student.»
Wales International School wishes all our students and families a restful, refreshing, and rewarding vacation. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting and successful academic session.
